Pamela Anderson’s iconic red swimsuit from Baywatch will be displayed at the Design Museum in London as part of the exhibition titled "Splash! A Century of Swimming and Style". The exhibition will open in March.
The exhibition will explore the evolution of swimming in social, cultural, technological, and environmental contexts over the last 100 years, from Britain's lido boom to the recent Mermaidcore trend.
Significant items include the first solo Olympic swimming gold medal won by British swimmer Lucy Morton in 1924, a now-banned high-performance swimsuit (LZR Racer), and a model of the London 2012 Aquatics Centre by Zaha Hadid.
The swimsuit is on loan from Germany's BikiniARTmuseum and was originally part of a collection held by Anderson’s co-star David Hasselhoff.
The exhibition's guest co-curator, Amber Butchart, expressed that Pamela Anderson's Baywatch swimsuit has had a lasting cultural impact, especially as Anderson reclaims her image by designing and modelling her own swimwear.
Geneza: The exhibition traces the changes in swimwear and swimming practices reflecting broader societal changes, highlighting issues like body autonomy and leisure trends.
